Capri architecture: where contemporary design meets a wild coastline

Capri has quietly shaped modern architecture for a century. Long before “minimalism” became a marketing word, the island’s whitewashed cubic houses and cantilevered terraces were already working through ideas that European modernists would later claim as their own. Architects touring the Mediterranean in the early twentieth century sketched these plain, sun-bleached forms and carried the lessons home, feeding directly into the stripped-back language that came to define modern architecture.
